I’m Karl Joachim Brende, an economic historian and currently a Visiting Research Fellow at BI Norwegian Business School.
My research explores the earliest forms of credit – particularly bills of exchange, interpersonal loans, and peer-to-peer lending, with a geographical focus on Norway and Denmark.
In December 2024, I completed my Master’s degree in Economic History at the University of Oslo under the supervision of Professor Einar Lie. My work employs a global historical perspective, harnessing new digital tools, social network analysis, and interdisciplinary social science methods to shed light on how these financial instruments shaped social and economic life in Scandinavia.
Using a global comparative historical perspective with new digital tools, social networks, and an interdisciplinary social science approach.
